September NewsSeptember 3, 2016
It's hard to believe that it is September already! We are supposed to be in full swing of racing season and experiencing cooler temperatures and humidity. Neither of that has happened yet.
We had 2 races cancel this month; the Falcon 5K and the FWB Cheerleaders 5K. Both race directors said they will be back next year on their scheduled weekends. With only one local race this month, the Holly Day 5K should be packed. It is Sept 10th out in Seascape. It's a nice course; something different. There is a super post-race with a ton of door prizes. There is an application on the website. I hope to see everyone there.
We have already started the 2016-2017 Grand Prix season and are two races into it. Please check the Grand Prix tab under "Racing" to verify your points for racing and volunteering. There was a mis-post of those results in August that has been updated. Contact Dennis Samac at firstname.lastname@example.org with any corrections.
Our monthly board meeting will resume after our summer vacation. The meeting will be Wednesday Sept 14 at 6:00. The location will be still be at Rick's Crab Trap on Eglin Pkwy. Board members should attend and members are always welcome.
I know I always ask for volunteer help at races, and I thank everyone that has stepped up to lend a hand. One of our major volunteers will be unavailable for the next 6 months. I've already had many people ask how they can help. That's great! But if anyone has a truck and a free Friday and Saturday, we can definitely use some extra help hauling equipment to the races and back to storage. The more help we have will lessen the burden on the few that are always there.
Lastly, many of you long-time runners and walkers may have noticed a missing face in the finish chute recently. Dave DeRuiter and his wife Carole relocated to Sarasota, FL. I hated to see them leave, they were great friends and always willing to help. I ran with Dave in his (and my) younger years. He was an inspiration to runners everywhere. I am glad they are finally settled into their new home and happy. I wish them the best, but we will miss them.
