June News

June 9, 2017

I am a little late writing this. Our Billy Bowlegs 5K is over and done with. The weather threatened right at start, but it turned out to be a great event. I think everyone had a great time. The course was well marked. Results came in fast. The post-race was great; fantastic band, plenty of beverages and pizza, and cool awards. Take a look at the sponsors on the back of the race shirt. Please support them or at least thank them for their sponsorship. Speaking of thanks, I cannot say enough about the volunteers that helped make this race possible. We couldn't have had a successful event without them.
The Bowlegs race may be over, but that is not an end to the Bowlegs fun. We are walking in the Bowlegs Torchlight Parade on Monday June 5th. The plan is to meet at Rick's Crab Trap before 5:30. At 5:30, we will start walking to the start line at First St. The parade will start at 7:00, so just arrive by then to join us. We are the #1 spot in the parade. That means we start first and finish first. We have T-Shirts and beads to throw. If you have any, bring them. Be sure to wear your Track Club attire, Pirate regalia, or Bowlegs shirt. We will also supply refreshments. I hope we can have a good turnout. It is a fun time!
There is still a few more races left in June. They are both on June 17th. The Gary McAdams Scholarship 5K is at 7:30 am on P'Cola Beach. It is always a well organized event and fun time. That same day, at 6:30 in the evening is our very own, Father's Day 5K. The start and finish will be at Prop's new taproom on Lovejoy Rd. this is the inaugural event and promises to be a lot of fun. For race info, contact Jeff Harris at Run With It. More info is on our race calendar.
Lastly, our last board meeting before our summer break will be June 14th at 6:00 pm at Rick's Crab Trap on Eglin Pkwy by KMart. There will not be a meeting in July. We will discuss Bowlegs, upcoming events, changes to Grand Prix, rubberized track progress, and a few other topics. We are interested in developing a Track Club app. If any members are tech savvy and want to help out, please come by the meeting.
I'll close by wishing everyone a happy summer; safe travels if you are venturing out of the area. If you are staying local, be carefully of the heat and humidity while you continue to train. Keep checking our web page for updates. A free training run, low country boil is in the works for Sat morning of the July 4th weekend. It will be a free event for Track Club members, a 5K non-timed event. Just come out and run, then hang out at the beach-side park and eat/drink. Again, keep looking for updates.
