Sept 2017 NewsSeptember 5, 2017
I can't believe it is already September! Where did August go? Where did the summer go? I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. There was plenty of races and the weather was beautiful for just about anything. The end of summer typically marks the beginning of our racing season. There are two races "The Club" will be involved with in September.
Sept 9th is the Holly Day 5K. The entire route is on Seascape property. It starts and finished adjacent to the Cabana Cafe. The post-race and awards are in the cafe. Maria Burke is the race director and she puts on a fun event with a ton of door prizes. our website has all the details.
Next up is the Chief Binnicker 9K Run and 5K run/walk on Sept 23rd. There have been a few changes for the event this year and they try to grow. First off, they moved the race from August to September in hopes of some cooler weather. Second, they added a 5K run/walk so those that felt a 9K was a little too much could still participate. Third, they have gone to electronic timing for quicker results. Lastly, they have expanded the post-race with music, more food, and for the first time, adult beverages (beer). You can also sign up directly on their website and avoid the active.com processing fees. All the info is also on our race calendar. I hope to see you out there for a beautiful run through Poquito Bayou.
Our monthly board meetings resume this month after our "summer vacation". The September meeting is the 13th at Rick's Crab Trap on Eglin Pkwy starting at 6:00 pm. All elected officers and board members should attend, Members are welcome as it is a great opportunity to learn all that goes into planning and executing the races and events we sponsor.
In closing, I hope everyone can still enjoy training and racing as nicer weather prevails. I for one can't wait for lower temps and lower humidity.
