It is already October...several days into it. It is hard to believe. The year is flying by. We are already planning the Timberlake 5K & 1/2 Marathon, Recycle Run, Christmas Party, Egg Nog Jog, and Round the Bay Relay/Ultra. That's it for the year for NWFTC events. Don't worry, there are plenty of other races every weekend to keep you busy. And as always, we will be asking for some volunteer help if you aren't up to running every race.
In October alone, we have the Relay for Life 5K, Destin Rodeo Run, FWB H/S Cheerleaders Run, the Wicked Triple Fun Weekend (10K & 5K on Sat, 1/2 Marathon on Sunday), and McGuire's 5K/10K Halloween Run to close out the month.
Please keep checking the race calendar for any race updates or cancellations (Hint-Hurricane Nate). That will be the easiest way to get the word out.
Our monthly board meeting is Oct 11, 6:00 p.m. at Rick's Crab Trap on Eglin Pkwy. Board members should attend, members are encouraged to pop in and see what goes on "behind the scenes" to plan all of our events.
Lastly, a big part of the Track Club is fostering young runners. We routinely donate money to the high school cross country programs, we are raising money to build a rubberized track for high school meets, and we support the middle school running programs also. This is the time of year we get to see the results of our efforts. The Middle School Cross Country meet is Oct 17 at Northwest Florida State College starting at 2:30 pm. The High School Cross Country meet is Oct 19 at Morgan Sports and Fitness Center in Destin starting at 9:00 am. It is so much fun to watch these young athletes run their hearts out, whether it is trying to beat the person in front of them or just set a new PR for themselves. I hope you can find some time to come out and cheer them to the finish.
