November News

November 5, 2017

There is a lot of information to share this month. It is busy now through year end.
First off, congratulations to our track club members that went up to Savannah, Ga for the Rock n Roll Marathon. Matt Blunden ran a 1:13:26 half which was good enough for 2nd Overall. I don't think he was pushing the baby stroller this time. His wife Katja ran an 18:48 5K and won Overall (not Overall Female). She also did the 1-Mile and placed 2nd overall with a 5:35. Frank and Susan McKenzie ran the half and finished together at 1:56:37. Jenifer Tomasello also ran the half finishing in 2:06:44. I hope I didn't miss anyone else that went up and ran. Those were the only names Niki gave me from Facebook.
Secondly, thanks to everyone that came out and supported the LuLu's Marlin 5K. The weather was beautiful. Billie Adams did a great job with everything. He had 126 finishers across the line. Hopefully, we can boost that up a little for next year.
Next up on our race calendar is the Veterans Day 5K in Destin. Details are on our website. Frank McKenzei says they will also be doing "team awards" this year. That's a hint for ALL you track club members to look for his sign-up sheet. I think we can win this one.
November 18th is the Timberlake 5K and 1/2 Marathon. Registration is low, but there is still 2 weeks left to sign up. registration is open and details are on the website. It is a Grand Prix event and we need volunteers before and after the race which allows you to run the race too. Let me know if you can help.
Our very own Recycle Run is Nov 23rd at The Landing. This is a race day only registration. Therefore, we need volunteers to help register the 400+ runners. Come early and work before you run. This too, is a Grand Prix event where you can earn points for volunteering. New this year...we are asking participants to bring 1 non-perishable food item along with their registration fee. The donated food will go the Caring and Sharing's food pantry which is quite low right now. Track Club registration fee is $5.00. Non-members is slightly higher.
There is no track club sponsored events for the Nov 25 & Dec 2. On Dec 9, we will be at The Landing for the Ho Ho Hustle. This is the second year for this 5K/10K.
That same evening is the Track Club Holiday Party. Tickets should go on sale at Timberlake 5K/half marathon...more reason to be there. We only have seating for 200 people and usually sell out. It's a nice opportunity to get out have a nice meal, dance a little, and see everyone dressed up; not sweaty and smelly in their running attire.
Lastly, our November board meeting is Wed, Nov 8 at 6:00 pm at Rick's Crab Trap. Board Members are encouraged to attend. Members are welcome. We discuss club business, finances, upcoming races, and what we can do to improve our club.
In closing, we have reverted from Daylight Saving Time. That means we have a little more daylight in the morning and it gets dark earlier. Be safe and plan accordingly. We don't want anyone getting hurt needlessly.
